Sapphire is aluminium oxide (Al2O3) single crystal and one of the hardest materials. With its good transmission in the visible and near infrared, high chemical resistance and thermal stability, it is often used as optical windows in a harsh environment. Recently, sapphire windows/rods found a wide use for broadband continuum generation (white light generation) pumped by femtosecond lasers.

Newlight Photonics supplies c-cut (-C) high quality sapphire windows/rods with the minimized birefringence for continuum generation.
Sapphire windows/rods cut along R-axis (-R) or along a random orientation (-RM) are also available.
